Oscar nominated industry veteran, Barbara Willis Sweete helms Willis Sweete Productions, a new company that produces high-end TV dramas, feature films and documentaries for the international market. As Company President, Barbara is now collaborating with a dynamic new producing team – Susanne Ritzau, Trinni Franke, Joan Jenkinson, Chrisann Hessing, and Chris Daellenbach.
During Barbara’s many years as a Founding Partner and Producer/Director at Rhombus Media (THE RED VIOLIN – Academy Award, Best Original Score, BLINDNESS and SLINGS & ARROWS) the company produced over 200 titles that were seen around the world. Rhombus co-produced with many international partners, and worked with most of the leading Broadcasters and Record Labels. Rhombus feature films have been distributed globally in all major territories.
Barbara’s films have been screened at major film festivals around the world and have received many top awards, including an Oscar nomination, four International Emmys, three Grammy nominations, dozens of Gemini Awards, three Genie nominations, a Genie win.
Willis Sweete Productions, now in its second year of operation, has completed a number of film projects including a large format, multi screen dance film, entitled I LOST MY TALK, for the National Arts Centre of Canada. The company has also produced an ambitious multi-platform project entitled SONGS OF FREEDOM, which includes a feature-length documentary, a series of half-hour television episodes and a comprehensive digital media component. SONGS OF FREEDOM won three Canadian Screen Awards in 2016.
The team is focused on developing rich, artful, entertaining material while navigating the world of digital media and international partnerships.
